Facts tell the story; the numbers have an impact and extraordinary meaning. Women are the showcase of our economy and society. Jim Rishwain, Chairman, Pillsbury Law, comments on the critical role women play in our economy and society saying that “Women’s Quick Facts represents an important tool to propel the effort.” Read and find the sources listed on all facts in the book. Do you know? That’s the question asked throughout Women's Quick Facts with over 260 valued pages. In the corporate world, women hold only 19.9% of board seats, 5% of CEO position and 21.1% of executive officials. Women represent 12% of CFOs, 17% of CTOs, 14% of CMOs and 48% of CHROs and yes, 76% of HR managers. Women entrepreneurs have started approximately 11.3 million businesses and generate over $1.6 trillion in revenue. Access to capital remains the growth issue in the U.S. and globally. In the U.S. only 4-10% of venture capital funds go to women. In the world of finance, just 9.4% of fund managers are women. Sweden and Norway lead the way with female representation in finance. Women investors have returns that are on average 12% higher than men. Technology is challenging. While 57% of professional jobs are held by women, only 25% of the computing workforce are women and 30% of the overall tech workforce. Women are leading the way in social media. Today, 68% of all women use social media, compared to 62% of all men. 20% of current female high school students interested in a STEM discipline say they want to learn about mentoring and motivational programs to help prepare them for the future. And 1 in 10 female students interested in a STEM career report having a mentor in their lives. 65% of women who have been mentored go on to be mentors themselves. Gender equity is a major issue on all fronts. Women and girls of color are far behind; yet STEM jobs are far closer to pay equity.
Take this book and mark it up, reviewing the chapters to set personal professional goals to advance the movement. Next, celebrate our success and push the numbers upward. The collective “us” are joining in the movement to advance women and girls as game-changers. As Million Women Mentors grows closer to reaching the 1 million commitment to mentor relationships pledged, the team salutes many including Lt. Governor of Iowa and Kim Reynolds, co-chair of the MWM states effort who comments, “I applaud this book, Women's Quick Facts and urge all to use this information to build the case for the advancement of women and girls. This book is the one-stop almanac and a resource for building the case on our call to action." Edie Fraser, CEO, STEMconnector & Million Women Mentors, shared her words, “Women count.
